ABSURD HERO to debut at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival
For Albert Camus, the Absurd Hero is embodied in the mythological character of Sisyphus, mayor of Corinth, sentenced by Zeus to the mundane task of pushing a boulder up a hill only to see it roll back down for eternity. In our present day version of the myth, Sid reminds us of the resilience we have as human beings. The Absurd Hero acknowledges the absurdity of life yet chooses to celebrate it with purpose and passion.
In 2024 the Edinburgh fringe festival spanned 25 days, sold 2.6 million tickets, featured 51,446 performances of 3,317 different shows in 262 venues. Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it is now the world's largest performance arts festival.
Absurd Hero will be directed by Kelly McAllister with choreography by Heather Westenskow and staged in Colorado using local talent. The Denver-based team will travel to Scotland and perform with other theatre troupes from around the world. The show will debut in Willow Studio at Riddles Court on August 1st and runs through August 9th, 2025.
"Undoubtedly one of the most charming venues at the Fringe" - The Guardian
Some famous faces have graced the halls at Riddles Court; including King James VI, who in 1598 attended a state banquet there and coincidentally, in 1751 it became the residence of David Hume, another well-known philosopher. It should come as no surprise that the building will become the venue for the new Musical’s debut. Tickets will be available on the Edinburgh festival fringe website.
